My Recommendation: A little far-fetched that any male escort could perform like this, but it IS fantasy! And a very good one at that! Definitely worth the read..late at night...in bed.
Yeeeheeheeesss! I'm so glad I took a chance on this one. I'd never heard of Claire Kent before but after this book, she is going on my list of authors to read. Yes, the idea that a male escort could do the things this man is doing - SO MANY TIMES...and in one night is unrealistic (if not and you know someone like this, I can provide an email address so I can get further information), but the fantasy of it gives a girl hope. And the storyline isn't bad. Imagine that! This isn't a flip to the next sex scene kind of book. There is a lot of sex, so you wouldn't have to flip too far, but I wanted to keep reading to find out if Lori would realize the depth of what she was feeling for Ander, and if he would admit to his growing love for her.
Plot/Pace: Not a new idea - young, nubile virgin and very experienced man; but for me this is the first time I'm reading that a virgin found an escort to fix that "problem". It's pretty evident that the story will turn out to be a love match, but I'm glad that it took some time and conflict for it to reach that point.
Imagery: The author did a great job of showing the awkwardness and insecurities of the first time, especially for someone in their 20s. The professionalism in the beginning wasn't over the top, but maybe just a little off putting..."Are you aroused?" Not sure I would be after you asked me like that..but then again, depends on how deep his voice is.
Romance and Sex: Oh if only fantasies really did come true! I don't think they make an "Ander" in real life, but it sure was wonderful to read about how amazing he is in bed. This book is one of the ones where you catch yourself not breathing for a second because of the anticipation. Where you can actually feel your blood getting warm. The sex is not mild but not hardcore...it's just right. More than sex, the author built in a real attraction between the characters and a friendship. The use of Ander's "mumbled words" throughout the book was sweet.
Characters: Lori and Ander are the only characters of note in the book. The other characters don't appear consistently enough to review. Which is fine, because the heat, passion, angst and frustration between those two was more than enough. Ander's character was a little too perfect, which is why most people say romance books are setting unrealistic expectations in the dating world! But if you know fantasy for what it is, FANTASY, his was a great character to dream about. Strong, sexy and with vulnerabilities. Lori....sometimes came off a little too naive for her age and too prickly.
What Irked the Shiznit Out of Me: The conflict in the epilogue. The book didn't need it. It felt like it was added as an answer to "You know if your boyfriend used to be a prostitute this would happen."
What Blew Me Away: Ander (sigh)...can they sell these legally and in every state!!
